App exclusions
Exclude apps from PaperScreen effects
For work that depends on judging original color, brightness, or contrast, PaperScreen can temporarily leave the display unchanged while a chosen app is in the foreground.
Apps that are useful to exclude
Exclusions are most useful for design, photo color work, video editing, display calibration, and other apps where you need to see the original output. Documents, browsers, and communication tools normally do not need to be excluded.
- Apps used to make color decisions.
- A protected-video app that shows an unexpected result with a display effect.
- A tool you use to compare the original display with PaperScreen.
Add or remove an app
The app picker opens the Applications folder by default. PaperScreen keeps only the information needed to identify the selected app, and the exclusions list shows the app name rather than its technical bundle identifier.

Choose Exclusions at the bottom of the main window.

Choose Add application and select the app.

To apply PaperScreen to it again, remove the app from the list.
Why switching has a short settling time
Launching an app or changing windows can produce several foreground changes in quick succession. PaperScreen waits for the active app to settle before switching the effect, which reduces flashing and repeated pause-and-resume changes.
